Vision RT wins 2024 King’s Award for Enterprise

Vision RT is delighted to announce it has won a 2024 King’s Award for Enterprise.

The King’s Award is the most prestigious prize for UK businesses, recognising and celebrating business excellence across the country. His Majesty, King Charles III personally approves the awards, and the Department for Business and Trade publicly announced the winners on 6th May 2024, the anniversary of The King’s coronation.

“This award means so much to us,” said Vision RT CEO Dr Norman Smith. “We are very proud of how much Vision RT has grown over the years. But we are even more proud of the difference our solutions have made in improving cancer care, not just in the UK, but for everyone, everywhere. This award is a great recognition of all we’ve accomplished so far, and it gives us validation and motivation to continue to innovate for the future.”

Vision RT was founded in 2001 by Drs Norman Smith (CEO), Ivan Meir and Gideon Hale (Executive Director). For its first two years, the company’s headquarters was a one then two-room attic space, during which time, the co-founders worked on creating the technology that would become known as Surface Guided Radiation Therapy or SGRT. Since then, the company has grown to more than 300 employees worldwide and has been granted more than 165 patents  for its technology.

SGRT uses camera systems to track surface data, to offer more guidance across every step of the radiotherapy workflow: simulation, planning, treatment and dose visualisation. Today there are more than 2,700 Vision RT SGRT systems in active clinical use around the globe. The company has won three previous Queen’s awards (the predecessor to the King’s Award, given during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II) – two in 2016 and another in 2020.

The King’s Award cites Vision RT’s growth and contributions to international trade – acknowledging its “outstanding overseas sales growth over the last three years”, including the USA, the largest radiation therapy market in the world. Total growth across this three-year period was 76% and the percentage of sales exported exceeded 90% in each of those three years.
