Vision RT customer is first cancer centre in India to receive JCI accreditation

Apollo Proton Cancer Centre (APCC), which uses AlignRT as their radiation therapy motion management solution, has become the first cancer centre in India to be accredited by the Joint Commission International. The JCI is the recognized global leader in health care accreditation.

Mr John Chandy, Chief Operating Officer of Apollo Proton Cancer Centre said:

“This is a big milestone for us and a great accomplishment for the entire nation as we have achieved the golden seal for following the highest standards in patient care and safety. It is a proud moment to achieve this recognition especially during the difficult times of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“Even though Covid-19, was a hurdle for patients across the nation and the globe to travel for their medical treatment, at APCC we give the highest priority to safety and at the same time ensure maximum comfort to the warriors who are fighting against cancer. Our centre has been on war footing to be in a Covid-free green zone. We at APCC treat cancer with the most advanced radiation technique, the Proton Therapy. Proton therapy has ushered in a new paradigm of clinical excellence and outcomes in cancer treatment. It provides targeted precision treatment that is unlike any other radiation treatment.”

“Despite the challenges due to the Pandemic, we have completed close to 200 proton cases by following the highest standard protocol with respect to patient safety. I would like to share the credit with our Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT) system, which helps ensure that the patients are positioned correctly before and during treatment.  By tracking the skin surface using Vision RT’s non-ionizing and non-invasive camera technology, SGRT helps make sure the patient is in the intended position, with high accuracy, and often with less physical immobilisation, providing both comfort and safety. We use SGRT for a wide range of cancer types and sites.”

“I am delighted to convey that we do contactless treatment using motion management technology and we have found that AlignRT is the best solution for us.  It allows our technicians to control all of the positioning directly from the console and they are finding it very user friendly.”

Apollo Proton Cancer Centre is the first proton therapy centre in South Asia and the Middle East. They opened in June 2019 and are the 8th hospital in the Apollo Hospitals Group to join the portfolio of JCI accredited hospitals
