alignrt in action - Breast Treatment

Breast cancer is treated by Radiation Therapy more than any other disease site.

Dr Simon Powell, Chairman Radiation Oncology, Washington University St Louis, has suggested that by using AlignRT®,  it may be possible to tighten margins on treatment plans to reduce the amount of lung exposure for all whole breast treatments, and of heart exposure for left breast treatments.

Partial breast irradiation is also of current clinical interest. Due to the reduced size of the target volume for this patient group, positioning accuracy is of even greater importance. AlignRT® can have significant advantages for this patient group.

Studies at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Boston, and at Washington University University, St Louis, have shown that AlignRT® is able to reduce the errors in target setup down to as little as 2mm in any orthogonal coordinate.
