Vision RT to present ‘AlignRT® for Frameless Radiosurgery’ at ASTRO 2009

28th Oct 2009

Following an extensive collaboration between Vision RT and leading academic centers in the United States, the AlignRT® patient tracking and 3D motion management solution has been successfully validated for frameless and maskless cranial radiosurgery. AlignRT®’s advanced imaging configuration comprises three ceiling mounted camera units which allow the patient to be tracked precisely in 3D, regardless of gantry rotation and couch angle. This has been used in treating its first cranial patients. The solution that has been employed is completely non invasive and does not require a stereotactic frame or a bite-block. Instead, it relies on a combination of real time tracking provided by AlignRT® and the MAYOMOLD, a custom fitting mould, produced by CDR Systems Inc (www.cdrsys.ca).

Frameless_SRS“We have been looking for ways to move to a new paradigm which provides patient comfort and patient surveillance in order to achieve high precision treatments”, comments Todd Pawlicki Ph.D. “The AlignRT® system has provided us with this capability”.

Vision RT will be demonstrating a live AlignRT® system, with the frameless and maskless solution, in its booth (#3319) at the ASTRO meeting in Chicago between November 1st and 4th 2009. A video presentation of a case study on the use of AlignRT® for frameless SRS may also be downloaded from the view demonstrations page on www.visionrt.com.
